MINNEAPOLIS — Twins second baseman Brian Dozier was honored before Sunday’s game against the Angels, as he received the Heart and Hustle Award from Twins great Tony Oliva in a special on-field ceremony at Target Field.

Dozier is one of 30 players to win the award this season and a final winner will be announced on Nov. 18. The award honors players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game.

The MLB Players Association formed 30 committees headed by former players representing each team. One player from each Major League team was chosen by the committees based on the passion desire and work ethic demonstrated both on and off the field.

“It means a lot,” Dozier said. “It’s voted on by the alumni and for them to see that in me is pretty cool. I have a lot of respect for how you’re supposed to play the game. I have a lot of pride in that aspect.”
